Chapters 1 and 2 in The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis.

My name is Gavin Sapontzis. I am undecided for my major, and I’m from Park Ridge, New Jersey.

Throughout the first chapter of The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis explains to readers the importance of properly written elementary school textbooks. Young minds are more easily influenced because they do not know any better. He also explains the influence of human emotion and how that can affect a young reader through the story of the waterfall. “From this passage the schoolboy will learn about literature precisely nothing. What he will learn quickly enough, and perhaps indelibly, is the belief that all emotions aroused by local association are in themselves contrary to reason and contemptible.” (Lewis 9). I thought about this more and I realized how easily influenced many of us can be. Whether this is at an old or young age, all people should be challenging the ideas and information given out by people in power.
